Fancy Gap, VA (October 27, 2026) - Geary & John are bringing a classic song back to its roots with their latest single, “Miss the Mississippi and You,” written by William Haegney and released through Mountain Fever Records.
At its heart, “Miss the Mississippi and You” is a song about homesickness. Written from the perspective of a man who has grown tired of life in the big city, the song finds him longing for the place he calls home along the banks of the Mississippi River, and for the girl he left behind. No matter how far he travels or how much the world changes around him, his heart keeps pulling him back to the Mississippi.
Geary & John’s recording keeps that feeling front and center. The track was recorded with Geary on a 1951 Martin D-18 and John on a 1951 Martin D-28, captured in a single take with no overdubs. The result is an honest, unembellished performance that lets the song, the vocals, and the natural character of the guitars carry the story.
That stripped-down approach gives “Miss the Mississippi and You” a timeless quality, allowing the emotion of the lyric and the natural interplay between Geary and John to take center stage. It’s a song about leaving, longing, and realizing that no matter how far you go, there are some places and people you never really leave behind.
