Self-Titled - CD
Mountain Fever Records proudly presents the self-titled album from acclaimed singer-songwriter Mason Via. Marking a significant milestone in his career, this is his first major project since departing the Grammy-winning band Old Crow Medicine Show (OCMS) to pursue his own musical path—one that returns to his bluegrass roots while boldly pushing the genre’s boundaries into progressive territory.
“This album is a pivotal turning point in my musical journey,” Via shares. “It’s my first statement since leaving OCMS to pursue my own music. I am returning to my roots of bluegrass and shaking it up by bringing some progressive new-grass music to the genre.”
Produced by celebrated musician and studio engineer Aaron Ramsey, the album features an all-star lineup of players handpicked to bring Via’s vision to life. Joining Mason on lead vocals and guitar are Aaron Ramsey on mandolin, Jason Davis on banjo, Jeff Partin on bass and resophonic guitar, Jim Van Cleve on fiddle, Kyser George on guitar, and harmony vocalists Brooks Forsyth and Nick Goad. With their combined talents, the album delivers a sound that is undeniably bluegrass while also weaving in influences of country and rock. The recording process was a creative exploration for Via, who experimented with arranging songs he had been writing for years—some not originally intended to be bluegrass—into the acoustic, rootsy soundscape of the album.
